It’s the latest in superfoods—and there is scientific data to back it up. The amazing acai (ah-sigh-ee) berry is taking the health and wellness industry by storm.

This small dark purple berry from the Amazon rainforest is a powerful, nutrient-loaded fruit that assists with conditions from weight loss and heart health, to improved digestion and better memory to name only a few of the many health benefits.

Used by Brazilian locals as a whole-food and considered a medicinal cure for numerous ailments for hundreds of years, acai contains substantial amounts of antioxidants, phytonutrients, amino acids and healthy fats as well as vitamins and minerals.

Acai is a powerful free radical fighter proven to fight cancer cells, strengthen the immune system and slow the aging process. All this is achieved through the high concentration of dietary fiber, good fats and phytosterols present in acai.

Hormones, neurotransmitters, the nervous, digestive and immune systems, and cell function are all vastly improved with the intake of acai, therefore resulting in a natural detoxification and disease-fighting process.

Health and supplement companies have been quick to make the most of this rainforest miracle food. Mona Vie International (monavie), based in Utah (US), takes the entire acai berry in its concentrated form and combines it with a blend of 18 other organic and wild-harvested fruits including pomegranate, blueberry, bilberry, etc.. With the acai berry as the foundation ingredient, Mona Vie selected other healing fruits to enhance and complement the acai berry. The result is a delicious, powerful, natural antioxidant juice rich with nutritional benefits.

ACAI JUICE ALSO
• Increases Energy
• Regulates Cholesterol Levels
• Boosts Concentration and Mental Clarity
• Improves Sleep
• Reduces Inflammation and Joint Pain
• Strengthens Eyesight

If you’re ready to get started on your way to naturally lower blood pressure, there are some important herbs you should know about. New clinical trials have forced even the archaic medical community to take notice of these effective, natural blood pressure remedies. Here are the TOP FOUR supplements that build-up your system and work on the cause of your high blood pressure—they do not band-aid the symptoms like pharmaceutical drugs.

Doctors and pharmaceutical companies are forced to agree that OLIVE LEAF EXTRACT decreases blood pressure. Clinical research proves it lowers blood pressure by increasing coronary flow with absolutely no side effects. These findings came from a “Twins Trial” whereby taking 1000mg lowered blood pressure in patients with mild hypertension. The powerful antioxidant effect of OLIVE LEAF EXTRACT also protects the heart and circulatory system from free radical damage with the additional benefit of reducing LDL cholesterol (the bad one).

The herb HAWTHORN has been used in many cultures for hundreds of years to treat high blood pressure. It is believed to dilate coronary blood vessels and maintain the flow of blood and oxygen to the heart—which lowers blood pressure. Recommended dose is 1200mg per day with results within four weeks. Or use Hawthorn in tea form and have two cups a day as a medicinal treatment. Hawthorn also has antioxidant properties which help scavenge free radicals caused by excess dietary fats, cigarette smoke, alcohol, stress and pollutants

CoQ10 is yet another natural treatment highly prescribed by cardiologists and medical doctors to prevent heart problems. By improving energy production in the heart muscle, CoQ10 has been documented as a natural means to lower blood pressure after only 4-8 weeks of use. CoQ10 naturally occurs in the heart tissue, but many people with high blood pressure (39% or more, in fact) have a deficiency. However, multiple studies show a lowering in blood pressure even in those without a deficiency. Several studies have shown 150mg per day lowers blood pressure in patients. Patients also often experience a lowering of bad cholesterol and a raising of good cholesterol levels with its use.

GARLIC has long been recommended as the leading herb for the natural treatment of high blood pressure. Studies show that raw GARLIC aids in overall cardiovascular health, including lowered blood pressure, with no side effects. Five to 10 minced raw garlic cloves per day, or 300 mg of dried garlic three times per day, lowers cholesterol, prevents blood clots and destroy plaque in the arteries. When people with high blood pressure were given one clove of garlic a day for 12 weeks, their diastolic blood pressure and cholesterol levels were significantly reduced.

As always, before taking any herbs for high blood pressure you should check with your doctor to see if they will interact with any prescription medications you may be taking. And do not stop taking blood pressure medications without first discussing it with your doctor or a trained naturopath, herbalist or acupuncturist.

Here is a list of herbs that have been found, or are suspected of, causing high blood pressure if not prescribed properly:
Licorice
Ephedra
Ginseng

Causes and Symptoms: High blood pressure, or hypertension to give it its proper medical name, is the most common form of high blood pressure. Its causes include kidney disease, disorders, of the endocrine glands and malfunctioning or disorders of the arteries. A congenital abnormality of the aorta is one of the most serious forms of hypertension. Its chief symptoms are headache, usually in the back of the head, ringing in the ears, giddiness. Headache is worst at the time of waking in the morning and it has a tendency to wear off during the day.

While hypertension runs its natural course, it usually causes death in the ends as a result of heart failure. A proportion of the victims dies of kidney failure and some of a stroke. The earlier the onset of hypertension, the proper is the life expectancy. A large number of deaths supposed to have occurred from heart disease were really the handiwork of hypertension left uncontrolled.

Hypertension can be either functional or organic: the latter is the case when the fatty substance accumulates in the smaller arteries carrying blood to the heart. The openings being smaller, the heart has to best faster and exercise more pressure to supply the blood to the various organs. Hence the higher blood pressure.

The Real Culprit: Hypertension is a disease of the modern civilization. Its incidence has increased during the last 50 years. The fast pace of life, the mental and physical pressures under which man in the present industrial and metropolitan environment works, gives rise to psychological tensions. Hypertension makes its victim a less than useful member of society. He cannot do any serious work, feels tired and out of sorts all the time. Never does he have a feeling of freshness even if he has full sleep. Difficulty in breathing may be experienced by him and dyspepsia is his constant companion.

Mental strain and an artificial way of life is the real culprit. Less physical work, a sedentary life, too much of intoxicants, tea, coffee, refined foods, destroy the natural pace of life. The expulsion of waste and poisonous matter from the body is hampered and the arteries and the veins become slack.

Modern medicine believers that a healthy person should have a systolic pressure (at the best of the heart) of 100 mm plus age and diastolic pressure (between) the beats of the heart) should be 80 mm plus age. The blood pressure is accurately measured by an instrument known as sphygmomanometer. The pressure, if it is abnormally high, is accompanied by disease of the arteries. The blood pressure normally increases with the advance of age, due to the hardening of the arteries. But it is an indication of ill health; if one is healthy, the normal systolic blood pressure should range between 120 to 140 mm of Hg. And diastolic should range between 70 to 80 mm of Hg. Whatsoever the age is after 20 years.

Kidney diseases, hardening of the arteries and severe constipation leading to absorption of morbid humours through the gut lead to high blood pressure. Smoking is another addiction, which leads to hypertension. Smoke a cigare3tte and then have your blood pressure, taken: it will be some points more than the normal.

Treatment: Drugs prescribed by traditional Physicians may temporarily reduce blood pressure, but they are harmful in the final analysis. The best way to reduce is to remove the real cause. High pressure of blood is only a symptom of the poisonous matter, which causes it and the naturopathic way to dealing with it is to remove the poisons from the system. Again, the ingestion of fresh fruits and vegetables instead of a traditional diet is helpful in ridding the body of the poisons, which cause high blood pressure. A hypertension patient, if he is not too weak, should start the process of healing by living on fruit and vegetables for at least a week. The best course would be to take only fruits at five hourly intervals only thrice in the day. Breakfast should consist of oranges, lunch of guava and dinner of tomatoes, or apples. Fruits like oranges, apples, pears, mangoes, guava, pineapples, raspberry, and muskmelon are the best diet in such cases. Bananas and jackfruits should be avoided. After a week of ‘fruits only” diet, milk should be added. Milk should preferably be of cow or goat and should be fresh. It should be boiled only once. After two weeks, the patient can be permitted cereal in his food. The best would be porridge.

Vegetables are also good for a patient of high blood pressure. A salt free diet is the best; if you must take it, take it 25% of the normal quantity. Vegetables should preferably be raw. If they are cooked, cook them with the rind on and do not let their natural juices burn in the process of cooking vegetables like cucumber, carrot, tomatoes, onion, radishes, cabbage and spinach are best taken in their raw form. They may be cut into small pieces and sprinkled with a little bit of salt and the juice of a lemon added to them in order to make them more palatable. The second step is to deal with a constipated bowel. During the period that fruits are the mainstay of the patient, he should take a warm water enema every day in order to clear his bowels.

If the patient is too sick to take exercise, let him massage his body; otherwise he should take exercise. Massage should be away from heart and towards the limbs and their extremities.

As the blood pressure shows signs of abating, take more exercise. Avoid too much straining of the heart. Breathe deeply while you are walking or taking exercise.

Rub your body with a rough towel vigorously for five to seven minutes after you have taken your bath. Avoid too cold water; add a little warm water to bring it to body temperature. If you have the patience, rub your body, instead of using a towel use your palms.

Early to bed is another cardinal principle, which a person suffering from hypertension must follow. He should get eight hours of restful sleep. Those who find it difficult to sleep can keep their feet in warm water for 10 to 15 minutes and then wash them with cold water.

The patient must avoid over-straining, worries, tension, anger and haste. He must try to be cheerful. The natural treatment may take some time, but do not lose patience because it is the safest and the best way to get rid of these diseases.

Blood pressure is the force with which the blood pushes on the walls of the veins and arteries as it flows through the body. If this force is too excessive then over time, the veins and arteries get damaged,
and those who suffer from it can develop atherosclerosis and other heart diseases. If high blood pressure is not treated it can lead to stroke, heart attack or other severe trauma.

High blood pressure has no symptoms, most people discover that they have it during their routing checkups with their doctor. However, symptoms that you might recognise include headaches, dizziness, fatigue, tightness of the chest, ringing ears, or insomnia.

There are many drugs available that can treat the syptoms of blood pressure while ignoring the cause, and each works in a different way. All of the chemical drugs cause side-effects, which is why the majority of our members prefer to lower their blood pressure naturally. A large number of natural remedies for lowering blood pressure can be found on the web, and they are very effective, so more and more people are resorting to natural remedies.

The most familiar home remedies for naturally lowering high blood pressure are diet and lifestyle changes That is due to the fact that these are two of the most important factors that can initiate to high
blood pressure or even make it worse. Your diet needs to be changed so that it contains minerals like calcium and magnesium. A deficiency of these minerals can lead to increased blood pressure, as well as other health issues. However, if you eat foods that are rich in vitamins and minerals then there is a good chance you can get your blood pressure under control.

What foods are we talking about? Well, vegetables contain a lot of minerals. The richest vegetables in calcium are bananas, grapefruits, broccoli, potatoes, peas and avocado. Specialists recommend eating celery, because it contains a chemical that can lower the blood pressure and relax the muscles around the veins. Another vegetable that has important properties is garlic. Eating a few cloves of garlic every day can have a significant effect on your blood pressure. For those that do not want to eat raw garlic there are numerous of garlic nutritional supplements available in stores.

Some people also maintain that yoga can significantly lower blood pressure and improve circulation.

The most important thing to do when you have high blood pressure is to quit smoking and drinking alcohol if you indulge in either. Tobacco and alcohol have been shown to critically elevate blood pressure. The fact is, if you smoke or drink it may not matter which the therapy you chose, as nothing may have any lasting effect.

At the end of the day there are scores of ways to lower blood pressure naturally, and despite the fact that only natural remedies deal with the root cause you must consult a doctor before eliminating, or
going off of any medications you are currently prescribed.

High Blood Pressure and Cholesterol

Heart attack is the leading cause of death not only in the United States but in the entire world. It kills twice as many people than the 2nd leading cause of death, which is cancer. Heart disease is also known as the silent killer because it happens suddenly with no fair warning. More than 50% of people who die of cardiac causes have no history of heart disease because sudden cardiac death is the most common cardiac sign. According to the National Institute of health high blood pressure should be a priority concern of over 65 million Americans. That is over 1 in 3 Americans. This statistic is even higher if you are African American. This statistic is also directly linked to the fact that 62% of Americans are overweight or obese. If you are overweight or obese you probably have high blood pressure or cholesterol and don’t even know it. High cholesterol oxidizes in your arteries and forms plaque, which blocks blood flow, which leads to a heart attack.

In addition to exercising on a regular basis and eating foods low in trans fats and cholesterol, there are many all natural ingredients you can take to lower cholesterol and high blood pressure. First you should know there is a three step process to lowering cholesterol and high blood pressure and there are all natural ingredients out there that are clinically proven to assist in all 3 of these steps, which can reduce the use of statins and drugs. Below is the 3 step process and its assisting all natural ingredients.

1) Prevent Cholesterol Absorption - It is common sense to eat less high fatty foods and eating fresh fruits and vegetables to reduce cholesterol absorption. Of course no matter what you do you will still eat food that has cholesterol therefore you should take Phytosterol to help your body to absorb much less cholesterol. Phytosterols are also called plant sterols, which are a group of steroid alcohol, photochemical naturally occurring in plants. They are white powders with mild, characteristic odor insoluble in water and soluble in alcohols. They have many applications as food additives and in medicine and cosmetics. Phytosterol have a very similar molecular structure as cholesterol therefore it mimics cholesterol in the digestive tract and blocks cholesterol from being absorbed. In this way your body absorbs less cholesterol therefore less cholesterol enters the bloodstream and the unabsorbed cholesterol passes through your body as waste. By lowering cholesterol absorption you help prevent the risk of heart attack. An excellent source of phytosterols is the acai berry. You can find more information about the acai berry here.

2) Preventing Plaque Build Up - The second step to lowering cholesterol is to prevent it from oxidizing in the arteries and forming plaque since Plaque is what makes high cholesterol deadly. There are several all antioxidants, which are great for preventing LDL cholesterol from forming plaque. Grape Seed, Grape Skin, Bilberry Extract, Quercetin, and Gingko Baloba are all flavenoids found in certain grapes and berries which naturally prevent plaque formation, which lowers cholesterol levels. Gingko Baloba comes from a 4000 year old ancient plant which also helps to prevent blood platelet activity.

3) Break up Plaque Build Up - Of course after you reduce cholesterol absorption and reduce cholesterol oxidation which forms plaque, you’ll still have some plaque build up that needs to be broken up. Not only does plaque build up cause heart disease but it also causes damage to arteries. Omega 3 fish oil has many properties, but two of the most important properties in relation to heart health is that it breaks up plaque build up, helps your body absorb more phytosterols, helps increase HDL cholesterol levels, reduces tryglyceride levels, increases blood flow to the heart as well as the brain for better memory function and many other benefits not related to heart health.

In addition to lowering cholesterol there are 4 all natural ingredients that help lower high blood pressure

Tripeptides - Tripeptides are derived from cutured milk and were discovered in the early 1900s by Japanese scientist. Nearly a century of research led to the patented process of isolating the tripeptides that help maintain healthy blood pressure. A potent therapeutic dose of these tripeptides has been shown to protect the artery wall.

Passionflower - A creeping perennial vine, recognized for its natural stress relieving and relaxing abilities.

Potassium - Potassium is an element critical to helping your body maintain the proper balance of potassium and sodium necessary for optimum heart and blood vessel health

Pomegranate - Pomegranate is a powerful antioxidant, and has been shown to possess stress-relieving properties, A three year study found that pomegranate helps promote healthy blood flow.

Your heart is the most important muscle in your body and your body can’t live without it. Start taking the right nutrients today and make heart disease beg for mercy. All of these ingredients are clinically proven and not based on folklore and home remedies. All of these ingredients are on the FDA approved ingredients list as well as being approved by the United States Pharmacopoeia (USP).

High blood pressure or hypertension is the condition when the blood flow in the arteries and veins is forced under a higher pressure than normal. This can happen due to the weakness of the heart or due to the buildup of cholesterol in the coronary arteries, which can reduce their lumen. Today, most people in the world are suffering from hypertension, though it is not always fatal. Proper medication and a positive lifestyle can make people with higher blood pressures lead a long and happy life. However, neglect can cause severe fatal problems like myocardial infarctions (heart attacks).

High blood pressure is known as Rakta Gata vata in Ayurveda. It can be caused due to vitiation of any of the three doshas, though the contribution of the vata dosha may be more, as it is responsible for the circulation of blood. The following are the main precipitating factors for people with different doshas:-

1.	Vata type of Hypertension – This is caused by extreme emotions such as worry, anxiety and stress.

2.	Pitta type of Hypertension – This is caused by negative emotions such as hatred, jealousy and feeling for revenge.

3.	Kapha type of Hypertension – This is caused by problems with the digestive system.

(1)	Useful Herbs in the Treatment of High Blood Pressure

1.	Alfalfa (Medicago satina)

Alfalfa contains several elements which are needed in the softening of the hard arteries. This reduces the tension in the arteries and hence helps to treat hypertension.

2.	Bloodwort (Achillea millefolium)

Bloodwort is a sweat-inducing herb. It makes the blood flow towards the skin for expelling the sweat. Due to this free movement of the blood, the high blood pressure is reduced. Bloodword contains an alkaloid which is effective in reducing high blood pressure.

3.	Garlic (Allium sativum)

Garlic is an antispasmodic agent. Hence it reduces the pressure in the arteries caused due to the pumping action of the heart during blood circulation. Garlic creates a rhythm in the pumping of the heart, which eases the pulse. Other high blood pressure problems such as dizziness, shortness of breath and indigestion are also taken care of by garlic. Garlic is widely considered to be the best remedy for high blood pressure.

4.	Jaundice Berry (Berberis vulgaris)

Jaundice berry is another very effective remedy in the treatment of high blood pressure. It eases the tension in the arteries by making them dilate. Thus the blood flow in them is facilitated.

5.	Parsley (Petroselinum crispum)

Parsley is like a monitor of the blood vessels. It regulates the flow of blood in them and maintains easy circulation. It looks after the entire arterial system. Hence it is a very beneficial herb for people with high blood pressure.

6.	Rauwolfia (Rauwolfia serpentina)

The effects of rauwolfia on the arteries and veins of the human system have been investigated in detail, and immensely positive results have been obtained. Rauwolfia has a treasure-trove of alkaloids for easing the arteries, synchronizing the blood flow in them, reducing palpitation and even removing the cholesterol buildup in the arteries. Hence, practitioners of all forms of medicine acknowledge the effects of rauwolfia. In Ayurveda especially, the root of the rauwolfia is prescribed for hypertension patients. The Ayurvedic name for rauwolfia is sarpagandha.

(2)	Dietary Treatments for High Blood Pressure

A strict dietary regimen is important to seek early treatment from high blood pressure. The following points must be obeyed:-

1.	Salt should be reduced or totally eliminated from the diet. Hot and spicy foods should also be avoided.

2.	Instead of hydrogenated fats, polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats must be used. These include oils of sesame, olive, flaxseed, mustard and groundnut. Ghee and butter made from cow’s milk are beneficial. Buffalo milk should be avoided.

3.	Indigestion should be taken care of by consuming a good amount of leafy vegetables containing fiber.

4.	Bitter gourd and drumsticks are advantageous vegetables for people suffering from high blood pressure. Colocasia must be avoided, but yellow pumpkin helps in reducing blood pressure.

5.	Among fruits, bananas, oranges, guavas and apples are good. All kinds of dry fruits and nuts are good.

6.	Sweets and chocolates must be avoided.

7.	Red meats must be avoided. But white meats, especially fish are beneficial in lowering blood pressure.

(3)	Ayurvedic Concepts for High Blood Pressure

Sarpagandha is the drug of choice in high blood pressure. Not only is this drug used in Ayurvedic medicine, but it is also used in allopathic medicine in the treatment of high blood pressure. In addition, the following herbal preparations are prescribed depending on the doshic cause of high blood pressure:-

a.	For Vataja High Blood Pressure, jatamansi and brahmi are prescribed.

b.	For Pittaja High Blood Pressure, sarsarapilla and sandalwood are prescribed.

c.	For Kaphaja High Blood Pressure, calamus, arjuna, shilajit, guggulu and berberis are prescribed.

(4)	Home Remedies for High Blood Pressure

a.	Have a spoonful of lemon juice mixed with honey every morning.

b.	Oranges are very helpful in high blood pressure. Have a juice of two or three oranges every day.

c.	Prepare a powdered mixture of cumin seeds, fennel seeds and sugar. Take one spoonful of this mixture in water every morning and evening.

Believe it or not, there are foods that can help lower your blood pressure. While you should continue to take any medications that have been prescribed by your physician for your hypertension, and consult with him before adding anything to your diet, with proper supervision, natural blood pressure lowering foods can often be added to your diet as well.

What’s a good example of a food that can help lower your blood pressure?

How about garlic? Yes, it’s true. Garlic supplements have been shown to help lower your blood pressure by as much as 5-10%. A dose of 900 mg of garlic powder per day can help lower your cholesterol, reduce your triglyceride levels, and promote healthy blood circulation. However, since garlic does have blood thinning properties, it should never be combined with prescription blood thinners (Coumadin or Trental for example) or natural substances that also thin your blood such as vitamin E or ginkgo.

Fruits and vegetables can also help control your hypertension. These include oranges, greens, potatoes, beans, okra, cabbage etc. Some fruits will supply your body with additional vitamin C, which is also useful in assisting with lowering your blood pressure.

Since, cholesterol can have an unfavorable impact on your blood pressure, especially when your cholesterol levels are high, switching from regular dairy foods to low fat dairy foods is a priority. Low fat yogurt, cheese without fat or with less fat, low calories cheese, cottage cheese with fat levels of just one per cent … these are examples of dairy products that can help give you an advantage over your high blood pressure. You can still enjoy the dairy products, still enjoy the flavors and textures, just check the labels first to limit as much fat as possible.

Along these same lines, keep an eye on the fat content of any meats you consume. Whenever possible, chose meats with less fat. For example, the white meat that comprises chicken or turkey (without the skin) should be considered as one of the foods that help to control your hypertension. Similarly, egg whites instead of whole eggs are preferrable since the yolk of the egg is thought to contain high levels of cholesterol.

What else can you do? Consider the latest superfood, the Brazillian Rain Forest acai berry with its antioxidant, omega 3, 6 and essential fatty acids and cardiovascular protection properties

Remeber, excessive consumption of alcohol, especially on a daily basis, can raise your blood pressure. So keep in mind that alcohol should always be taken in moderate amounts especially if you’re in a hypertensive state.

The good foods on your list can lose their effectiveness if they contain high levels of sodium. Since it’s well known to increase blood pressure, your sodium intake should always be carefully monitored.

Summing it all up.

Anyone can develop high blood pressure. African Americans are at higher risk for this serious disease than any other race or ethnic group. High blood pressure tends to be more common, happens at an earlier age, and is more severe for many African Americans. The good news is that hypertension can be controlled. Better yet, it can be prevented.

Eating a healthy diet, comprised of the right foods, can have huge benefits if you’re dealing with high blood pressure. In fact, a healthy diet can often be the deciding factor of whether you’ll need to take hypertensive drugs or not.
