What are some good foods to eat to lower your blood pressure??

I have always had boarderline high blood pressure, but reccently it has gotten so high that I have had to be put one medication. I know what foods to avoid, like salt, and fatty foods, but I don't know what I should be eating.

Are there certain foods that will lower your blood pressure? Also, what other things can I do to lower it?
I don't mind eating garlic. But do you mean raw garlic, like just pop a clove in my mouth? Or eating it with my food?

No one food is going to be your magic answer - you need to consider your entire diet and your lifestyle. Generally you need to think about how much exercise you are doing, be honest about how much 'bad' food you are ingesting.

If you are serious about your health, you need a change in lifestyle….you need to be eating more of the good stuff (white meat, veg, fruits, wholefoods) and less of the rubbish (red meat, fried stuff, fast food, pies, battered, processed)….and you need to move more. You need to do the whole 20 minutes of exerice 3 times a week, thing.

Serious answers please. I've heard of potassium, but is there anything else?

Potassium is only if you are on a water pill for high blood pressure. You can exercise, work up slowly, walk or stretch and then do some floor exercises. Whatever you can do to move is just fine as long as you get moving. Then you need to stop salty foods. There is a lot of hidden salt in things like processed foods, bacon, lunchmeats, canned veggies even, fast food is full of it, chips, hot dogs, all that stuff is off the menu. Plus cut out fatty food and that is most fast food. Salads, Subway low fat and calorie sandwiches are od. But most fast food is bad for you. Eat small healthy meals several times a day. Ear veggies, fruit, small palm sized portions of meat and whole grain cereal and breads. No cakes, cookies and white bread or fried foods. Cut out fats like butter and margerine. Use the new kinds made from olive oil and such.
Cut out all soft drinks, they are loaded with sodium which is another name for salt. Then check the BP and take the meds the DR. gives you. Also, if you smoke, stop right now. It is the worst. So, that's a lot of info. Try changing some everyday. Try some moving every day, cut out one thing every day. Don't buy salty refined foods and bring them home. That way you won't eat them. Please look out for your health. High BP can cause heart attacks and strokes which run in my family. So, I know. Good luck. They call it the silent killer because you can have it and not know it. Are Palin/McCain or Obama/Biden sending your blood pressure through the roof?

Were all to familiar with the ads - “He’s this…” “She’s that…” It’s enough to send that 120/80 that you’ve worked so hard for right through the roof. Well if the thought of Sarah Palin in the White house makes your blood boil you’ve come to the right place. If the possibility that Barack Obama might be your next leader gets your blood pressure into the red zone then this is the place for you. If thinking of John McCain in the oval office is enough to get you rushing to the doctor for a blood pressure check then I am glad you made it. And finally, if Joe Biden as the V.P. is enough to make you worry about your B.P., then hey, glad you’re here.

Look, this isn’t a political blog and I am not going to get into to who is right or wrong, or who is good or bad. This is a place of peace, a place to come and relax, and that’s exactly what you need if these election highs and lows are just leading to blood pressure highs.

This is time when emotions run high, when neighbors, friends, families, co-workers, heck, even the people in the same parties are at each other. There are Republicans that don’t like Sarah Palin, there are Democrats that wish Hillary was their candidate, and the debate’s go on.

And look, the Republican Convention is over. The Democratic Convention is history, you don’t need to worry about this stuff.

So here’s what I want you to do, sit back, close your eyes (you should probably read this first), take a deep breath and let it all out. All of it, not just the air but the emotions, the feelings everything. Nothing is more important than your health and you need to make that priority one.

So feel free tell Obama to take a flying leap. Tell Sarah to ride back on that moose that she rode in on. Tell John to go for a ride in an airplane. And tell Joe, well, tell Joe whatever makes you feel better.

It will also serve to lower high blood pressure and cholesterol levels, while raising HDL-cholesterol and reducing chances of heart complications in the future. Men and women who regularly jog, ride bikes, or swim are twice as likely to not get high blood pressure.

If you have no previous problems with heart complications, you do not need to see a doctor before exercising. But occasionally it could be risky if you have had health problems in the past. If you set up goals for yourself based on your height, build, and age, you can burn up to 2500 calories every day doing simple activities like jogging and biking. Usually you can fit these things into your daily schedule without causing much of a change in your life. For example, you could start biking to work or walking on a treadmill while you watch TV.

If you are at risk of high blood pressure or heart problems, it is worth the trouble to exercise and stay in physical shape. Its a consideration of yourself and your family to take exercising seriously if you are overweight. Not only will it help your blood pressure, it will help numerous conditions which can be attributed to weight.
